Project Description: Located in the town of Aylmer, ON, behind an existing Hydro One facility was a new transformer station built between spring of 2016 to summer of 2017. This new station would provide power to surrounding businesses as the infrastructure continues to grow.

Project Scope: RAven Construction was awarded the civil contractor for EPTCON at this new station and our scope of work included:

  • Site preparation: Created a construction access road to the site, clearing and grubbing and setting up a small parking lot

  • Excavation and backfill operations

  • Formwork, rebar and cast-in-place concrete installation for two transformers, control building, relay building and electrical foundations

  • Foundation waterproofing

  • Masonry fire separation stairwells

  • Structural steel installations

  • Supply and install doors and hardware

  • Fence installations, chain-link and wooden fence systems

  • Underground piping, manholes and catch basins

  • Final grading and asphalt construction of site driveway

  • Perimeter berm and rip rap installation

Highlights: At one point in the project, we had to tie-in underground piping close to the street, utilizing proper traffic delineation and best safety practices we handled the situation with minimal disturbance to the general public or the environment.

We had discovered a semi-broken waterline that fed the farm fields adjacent to the work site. We worked with the local farmer and came up with a fix to maintain flow to his field during construction activities quickly and efficiently.
