Project Description: Located in Guelph, ON, a new Transformer Station was built in 2016. Continued growth in the Guelph-Waterloo area has indicated a need for increased supply of electricity. This station would supply power to many homes throughout Guelph and was completed within the calendar year.

Project Scope: RAven construction was chosen for the civil scope of the project under EPTCON. Installation of two new 230/115 kV 250 MVA autotransformers and other required structures, further scope detailed below:

  • Excavation and backfill operations

  • Formwork, rebar and cast-in-place concrete installation for control building, transformer containments and electrical support stands

  • Foundation waterproofing

  • Pre-cast trench installations and duct banks

  • Fence installations, chain-link and wooden fence systems

  • Final grading and Asphalt construction station driveway

  • Seeding and sod repair at station entrance

  • Underground piping, manholes and catch basins

  • Supply and install doors and hardware

Highlights: Project was located within a residential area, therefore construction activities had to be coordinated well in advance and performed only during set hours of the day to control noise level concerns. Extra steps were taken to ensure public safety and municipal considerations were adhered to.
