Victor Diamond Mine is located in the James Bay Lowlands of Northern Ontario, approximately 90 km west of the coastal community of Attawapiskat First Nation. It is Ontario's first diamond mine and the second in Canada for De Beers. Construction of Victor Mine commenced in February 2006, with the mine being officially opened in July 2008.

Raven Construction was responsible for architectural activities associated within the Mechanical Process Facility, Warehouse and Truck shop. Our scope included:

  • Supply and installation of steel studs, insulation, drywall, doors and hardware

  • Fireproofing of structural building members at various locations, as required

  • Supply and installation of metal cladding

  • Site preparation and grading activities

  • Architectural finishes

Highlights: Due to the remote location of the project, all material to be installed had to be shipped to site by the 400 km James Bay Winter Road (connecting Moosonee to Attawapiskat). With the contract being awarded in November 2006 and the Winter Road opening in February 2007, aggressive coordination and planning with vendors and carriers was required to successfully shop all required material to site utilizing the two (2) month shipping window for the Winter Road in support of Raven's site activities commencing in October 2007. The balance of material had to be flown to site.

Construction activities being executed by Raven were complete in March 2008. All work was completed utilizing 3 weeks in and 1 week out work shift. Labour was flown to site via Timmins or Thunder Bay, with Owner-supplied camp accommodations being provided.
