Contract Type: Fixed

Contract Value: $700,000.00

Project Duration: 6 Months

Project Status: Complete

Project Description: Located in Newmarket, ON, (Holland Marsh) a wetland and agricultural area in Ontario about 50 kilometers north of Toronto. An existing Hydro One station on Miller’s sideroad added a relay building to their existing transformer station.

Project Scope: RAven Construction was awarded the civil contract under State Group for this building. Our work scope included:

  • Excavation and backfill operations

  • Surveying control for the new relay building

  • Formwork, rebar and cast-in-place concrete installation for new relay building foundation and interior slabs

  • Foundation waterproofing

  • Supply and install doors and hardware, parapet framework on roof, trench and conduit tie-ins

  • Duct bank and cable trenches

Highlights: During initial excavation of the building footprint and subgrade inspection, we noticed that the ground conditions were inadequate to support the building foundation. Roughly 3 meters of topsoil was mixed into the subgrade below from previous construction.

This increased the job scope dramatically as we needed to remove the loose soil and build up a compacted subgrade in approved lifts to support the new relay building. We were able to complete this unforeseen step within a one-week period with minimal disturbance to schedule.
